ETC battery

The company, which was founded in the autumn of 2006, shall commercialise a new type of rechargeable lithium-ion batteries.

So far, lithium-ion batteries have only been used as small batteries, but now materials and technology are available which make it possible to manufacture larger batteries which can for example replace lead batteries. Lithium-ion batteries contain four times more energy compared to previous systems and this means that smaller and lighter batteries can be used for a given application.

The company is owned by the non-profit making association Energitekniskt Centrum för Batterier och Bränsleceller (the energy engineering centre for batteries and fuel cells) with among others, Chalmers, KTH and Lund's Faculty of Engineering as interested parties. The centre was founded in order to keep the skills that would otherwise have been lost after Tudor 1999 stopped manufacturing lead batteries in No1. ETC now operates from Tudor's old premises. From the present laboratory manufacturing at Uppsala University, the company wants to start pilot manufacturing in No1.
