GETT Fuel Cells International

Fuel cells will make it possible to increase the use of renewable energy and generate more efficient energy production and energy use.

The company was started in 2004 in order to commercialise Bin Zhu's ideas on the use of membranes for fuel cells. Bin Zhu is assistant professor at the Institutionen för kemiteknik (Institution for Chemical Engineering), KTH. The company's work is based on more than 20 years of research at Chalmers, KTH and at the GETT (Global Energy Transformation Target) laboratory in Hefei, China, where much of the development work is being carried out. GETT's product is a fixed-oxide fuel cell which operates within the temperature range 400-600°C. The advantage that GETT's fixed-oxide cells have is that they work at lower temperatures which reduces material problems.

The company is managed by the Chief Executive Richard Ljungberg, previously a management consultant at Ahrens Rapid Growth Consultants and a PR consultant at Carta Booz Allen & Hamilton. The board members include, among others, Lars Kristofferson, previously the General Secretary for the Swedish Worldwide Fund for Nature.

"Fuel-cell technology will become extremely competitive in the long run. GETT is negotiating with several companies for the technology to be adopted, primarily within the vehicle industry".
