The market for heating boilers that are run on bio fuel is expanding heavily and approximately one half million new boilers are sold annually. Sales are increasing by 30 percent per year.

As a result of SenSiC's technology with gas sensors in silicon carbide, a more effective combustion process is achieved with a five percent increase in effectiveness. Sensors measure and regulate oxygen, temperature and gases, among other things. The amount of soot particles is also reduced. Through a reduction of hydro-carbon emissions (approximately 90 percent), bio-fuel boilers can be used increasingly in densely populated areas, where neighbours often complain of the bad smell.

The innovation is based on research carried out by professors Anita Lloyd Spetz and Mike Andersson who together with the entrepreneurs Lars and Bo Hammarlund have started a company. SenSiC forms a part of an incubator company in Teknikhöjden in Stockholm.

"Similar technology is used in large commercial energy production facilities but has been too expensive for ordinary household boilers. Now there is a completely automatic and cost-effective technology which as well as increasing energy efficiency also has other positive environmental effects."
