SootTech

The amount of energy used today during high-pressure cleaning in recovery boilers in pulp mills is considerable. SootTech has developed the system High Impact Soot System which increases the soot blowing in recovery boilers in pulp mills.

The system requires no extensive conversion to the soot system, boiler tubes or other equipment in the recovery boiler. In most cases, installation can be carried out during operation which reduces the need for production stops. With the Swedish Energy Agency's support, the system was installed in Bäckhammar Mill in 2007. The installation demonstrates that the technology works with good results in practice.

The idea originally comes from the innovator Erik Dahlén. The company's CEO is Mikael Nilsson, who for almost two decades has worked with sales, supplies and the installation of equipment to the paper industry. SootTech which forms a part of the incubator Chalmers Innovations, won the prize Venture Cap Stage 1 in December 2006, a business plan competition which the Energy Agency is supporting.

In the Nordic countries, there are around 50 recovery boilers and a total of 650 throughout the world which can benefit from this new technology.
