X-design

Since the middle of the 1990s, Per-Åke Wahlberg has worked with energy-saving compressed air systems and in 2002 he invented the energy-saving valve X-block, which can be used in all compressed air systems.

Per-Åke Wahlberg has worked for companies such as Vattenfall and has been the CEO and local manager for Diatool in Vuollerim. He later became responsible for production of his energy-efficient cylinder system at the company POS-line. In 2007, X-Design won the Norrland finals in the Venture Cup and later came third in the national finals of the Venture Cup, Sweden's leading business plan competition.

The system was tested in 2006 at Luleå University of Technology which demonstrated a reduction in energy use of between 35-70 percent depending on the pressure. The same year, it was tested at Stenvalls Trä and will now also be tested by SCA Timber in the equipment which picks and packages the sawn timber after it has been dried.

"The compressed air system is seldom given any attention as an energy problem because every individual facility in itself does not make use of large amounts of energy. X-Design has successfully demonstrated how more efficient the system can contribute to increased operational security but can also provide energy savings."
