The overall picture is important in the work with a company's energy use.
To actively work with energy efficiency and increased energy awareness in a company, often leads to competitive advantages. 
Routines are clarified and operating and maintenance costs are reduced, as well as energy costs.
The Swedish Energy Agency is promoting increased energy efficiency in companies in a number of ways, e.g. by demonstration projects, network activities, seminars and information. Since 2010, small and medium sized companies can apply for an "energy review check", i.e. a subsidy for performing an energy review.
In 2005, the Programme for improving energy efficiency in energy intensive industries started. This a type of voluntary agreement (VA, LTA) between the Swedish industry and the Government. The programme intends to increase energy efficiency in the participating industries and creates also an opportunity for tax exeption.
