Instruments

Economic instruments are used to steer the development in the energy sector here in Sweden. Traditionally, taxes have been the main instrument.
Today major changes are made in the economic instruments that Sweden use. There is a growing interest in market-based instruments. This is illustrated by the electricity certificate system, that was introduced in May 2003 and by the emissions trading system, that was introduced in January 1, 2005.
