How to apply for an account
There are different types of accounts in the EU ETS. Some types are dedicated to governments acting under the Kyoto protocol, others are foroperators bound by law to report emissions and surrender allowances. But the personal holding accounts are open for everyone to apply for.
The account application process differs between the account types. While the operators bound by law need to deliver a certain set of documentation, this might not be the case for the so called personal holding accounts (PHA).

Aircraft operator holding accounts
From 2012, parts of the aviation sector will be included in the EU ETS. Since the current registries in the EU ETS cannot create this type of accounts, they must from 2012-01-31 open accounts in the new consolidated registry system known as the Union registry.
