Bioenergy Promotion Project
The scope of the EU-project Bioenergy Promotion is to encourage both production of and trade with biomass in the Baltic Sea Region.
The project Bioenergy Promotion runs for three years, from 2009 until 2011. It is part-financed by EU:s Baltic Sea Region Programme and has 34 participating partners from the following countries: Belarus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Norway, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Sweden. The Swedish Energy Agency is coordinator of the project.
Project objectives
The project is divided into the following four parts, which also are called work packages:
Policies
Leader: Federal Ministry for Environment
This work package will develop new criteria for sustainable bio energy production. The target groups are political decision makers and those working with farming or forestery.
Subregions
Leader: Norwegian Forest and Landscape Institute (NFLI)
A subregion is a smaller and demarcated region within a country or in neighbouring countries. The aim of this work package is to identify areas, resources, limits and opportunities for an increased production of bio energy. It targets politicians and private enterprises. A number of regional contact points will be established, where it will be possible to test results from other work packages.
Business
Leader: Baltic Eco-Energy Cluster (IMP-BKEE)
The project will analyse what methods and tools that can function as drivers for the development of sustainable businesses. It could be scenario planning and simulation. The supposition is that sustainable businesses can help to reach other regional sustainable goals. It targets politicians and private enterprises.
To encourage business across the boarders the project plan to establish meeting points and match-making meetings for the companies in the Baltic Sea region, and a virtual broker service.
Communication
Leader: Motiva
Good communication is essential for all projects, since it both supports the work in the different working groups and raises awareness about the project among the target groups. The communication hub is the Bioenrgy Promotion Project web site. A newsletter that informs about results and activities is published every two or three months.
