On October 21-22 a high level conference on the EU's Strategic Energy Technology Plan took place in Stockholm, Sweden.
The conference’s objective was to further the Strategic Energy Technology (SET-) plan strategies and activities and, of course, to be an important networking event. Another essential topic was the financing of the SET-plan, which was discussed in a moderated panel.
Results
The important technologies and industrial initiatives that the SET-Plan promotes was discussed in eight parallel sessions: bioenergy, carbon capture and storage (CCS), concentrated solar power (CSP), energy efficiency, nuclear energy, photovoltaics, smart grids and wind power. The results and conclusions from these sessions were presented by rapporteurs from each session. Please see the page Documentation from the SET Plan Conference.
About the conference
The Conference was anaugurated by Ms Maud Olofsson, Swedish Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Energy and Industry, by Mr Andris Piebalgs, Commissioner from the Directorate for Energy and Transport and by Mr Janez Potočnik, Commissioner from Directorate for Research and Development.
The invitees will represent European actors in the innovation system for energy technology – financial community, industry, researchers, customers and public policy makers, as well as representatives from the European institutions and international partners.
The conference takes place at Berns Salonger, Berzelii Park in central Stockholm.
The full programme can be down-loaded as a pdf here.
Registration
Participation in the conference is free of charge but you are requested to register on the Conference's web site on October 13 at the latest. The number of participants is limited to allow a broad representation from all industrial initiatives and from all member states.

Side event: Energy 2050
Aula Magna, Stockholm University
In connection with the SET-plan Conference the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences will arrange the international symposium Energy 2050 in Stockholm on October 19-20.
The symposium is focused on key issues emanating from the Academy’s in-depth energy studies during 2005–2009. The goal is to provide a statement as a basis for the December 2009 Copenhagen meeting at which a post-Kyoto action plan will be discussed.
Side event: The Inno Energy Forum - Turning the SET Plan into Reality
China Theatre, Stockholm
The Inno Energy consortium, consisting of major actors from Industry, Universities and Research Institutes invite to an afternoon session, Oct 22, 14:00-16:00, exploring the potential of an integrated and holistic approach for a sustainable energy Europe. In particular, how the actors of the knowledge triangle, i.e. the business community, the universities and research institutes can join force on an organisational level to boost innovation.
The challenge for Europe to become climate neutral by 2050 is an opportunity for the innovation system of Europe to create new companies and jobs, making Europe the leading actor of sustainable energy products and services. Representatives from ABB, CEA, Intel, TOTAL, Vattenfall, Iberdrola and ESADE reflect on the energy challenge for Europe. For further details and programme, see:
