Great interest in financial support to solar cells
A new financial support for the installation of solar cells was introduced July 1, 2009. The first week the county administrative boards recived more than 100 applications for a total amount of approximately SEK 100 million - which is twice as much as is allocated for 2009.
- It is very positive that the interest is so great. There is a big potential for solar energy in Sweden, especially through the potential for integration in the built up environment. The interest for solar cells can help to create a market for grid-connected photovoltaic systems in Sweden. This means that more Swedish parties can come in contact with the technology and costs will be reduced over time. In this way, the Swedish photovoltaic industry take advantage of the rapid expansion internationally, says Birgitta Palmberger Head of Department at the Swedish Energy Agency.
There are SEK 50 million allocated for financial support to solar cells in 2009. For 2010 and 2011 is estimated between 50 and 60 million per year.
The support can be provided for all types of grid-connected photovoltaic systems, and for installations which started earlier than July 1, 2009 and completed by December 31, 2011. The aid is up 60 percent of investment cost, except for large companies that can get up to 55 percent of costs covered.
Information and application forms are available via the Swedish Energy Agencys's website, but aid is sought in each of the county administrative boards.
In late August, the Swedish Energy Agency is to decide how the money is distributed among the county administrative boards.
