Airglass

Airglass sells aerogel, which is an extremely well-insulating, transparent and heat resistant material. One application area for the material is windows in buildings.

Since 2008, Airglass has been increasingly oriented towards using the material in insulation modules for solar power stations. The company has applied for a patent for its insulation modules with curved glass plates to protect against mechanical effects.

Airglass is headed by its principal owner, Leif Gullberg, and the business developer Christer Westlund. Together, they have many years of experience in technology and operating businesses. The Swedish Energy Agency has previously financed the company's participation in a research project with financing also being provided from the EU.

Use of the aerogel material allows the absorber tube to be less vulnerable and to handle higher temperatures. Production of electricity can thus be made more efficient with the use of the company's aerogel material as insulation. More efficient electricity production from solar power stations can be considered to comprise an improvement in the competitiveness of the solar power station in relation to existing non-renewable electricity production methods.
