Powercell

Powercell Sweden AB has developed an advanced fuel cell system and reformer for the transport industry and certain other high-tech markets.

The technology is based upon a fuel cell design that was originally developed by Volvo. The fuel cell reformer can reform several different fuels such as ethanol, biogas, DME (dimethyl ether) propane, diesel or petrol to hydrogen gas, which can then drive a fuel cell.

The company is headquartered in Gothenburg and is owned by Volvo Technology Transfer, Ocas, Midroc New Technology and Fouriertransform. The technology is based upon more than 15 years of research and development at Volvo. The product is based on two patented key components - the fuel cell and the fuel reformer, which converts the other fuels into hydrogen gas. When integrated into a system, these components provide an efficient electricity generator.

Powercell Sweden intends to offer the market environmentally friendly fuel cell systems that produce electricity where Powercell's core competency and strength make for a significant competitive advantage. Electricity units for households and boats, telecom masts, electrical hybrid vehicles, refrigerated transports and military applications are examples of sectors with substantial potential for Powercell's product.
