200 MSEK granted for research on electrical vehicles and infrastructure
The Swedish Energy Agency has granted 200 MSEK to a research programme on electrical vehicles and the infrastructure needed to support introduction of all types of vehicles which need charging from the power grid.
In February 2009 the Energy Agency was commissioned by the Swedish Government with providing an integrated knowledge base for the market in electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids. A report was generated in which recommendations were made on lager demonstration investments to stimulate introduction of electrical vehicles on the Swedish market. As a result the government commissioned the Swedish Energy Agency to start a four year research programme.
-Electrification of vehicles in different forms is now slowly becoming a reality on the global scale via large, committed stakeholders. This serves as a good reason for analysis and preparation in this area, says Magnus Henke, program manager at the Swedish Energy Agency in a press release.
Battery powered vehicles are evolving rapidly but are still relatively confined to certain types of use, much due to the limited operating range, so there is a need for knowledge in how these types of vehicles can fit into the transport system as a whole.
