Significant increase in energy from wind power
Energy from wind power in Sweden increased at a record pace during 2010. Statistics from the Swedish Energy Agency show that 308 new wind power turbines were installed, with a capacity of 574 MW.
This makes a total of 1655 turbines, which generated 3.5 TWh – an increase of 42 per cent compared to 2009. Wind power accounted for approximately 2.4 per cent of the electricity use in Sweden. A large amount of the electricity generated from wind power is produced in the south of Sweden; the region of Skåne has the highest installed capacity, whereas Västra Götaland had the most wind turbines and accounted for the largest expansion during 2010.
