On the 6-18 November, COP27 took place in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt. The Swedish Energy Agency was part of the Swedish negotiation delegation.

What was COP27 all about?

The issue of damages and losses due to disaster received the most attention during COP27; countries affected by extreme weather shall be able to receive financial support to help rebuild and restore infrastructure, housing, and damages to nature. During the meeting, the participating countries agreed to set up a new fund for damages and losses. Details on financing and eligibility have yet to be decided.

There was no agreement concerning the issue of emission control and the work towards reaching the Paris Agreement goal of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees. The delegation is hoping to see more focus on emission reduction in Dubai 2023 at COP28.
