COP28: Raised ambition and new international partnerships

The UN climate change conference COP28 began on Thursday in Dubai. The Swedish Energy Agency is participating in the climate negotiations and the Swedish business delegation.

This year's COP takes place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

From 30 November to 12 December, world leaders, researchers, companies, and organisations are gathering at COP28 to negotiate, discuss solutions and climate measures, as well as develop new partnerships.

“If we are to achieve our national energy and climate policy goals, successful international cooperation is vital. The Swedish Energy Agency is attending the COP to participate in the negotiations, but also to highlight development and progress - and meet both new and existing partners," says Sandra Lindström, Head of International Climate Cooperation at the Swedish Energy Agency.

Global stocktake report

This year’s negotiations follow the release of the first global stocktake report. The global stocktake is an assessment occurring every five years, evaluating the countries' efforts in relation to the long-term goals of the Paris Agreement. The results of the evaluation will shape climate policies and lay the foundation for future climate goals of the participating countries.

The Swedish Energy Agency is part of the Swedish negotiation delegation, focusing on regulations regarding international climate collaboration and carbon finance. The Agency also participates in negotiations concerning technology development and distribution of sustainable technology.

New international partnerships

Representatives from the Swedish Energy Agency will be present in the Swedish pavilion, together with other Swedish authorities, companies, representatives from academia, and politicians.

“We are partnering up to accelerate the green transition. COP28 is an important forum for highlighting what is being done in Sweden within energy and climate innovation and for initiating new international partnerships”, says Niclas Carlsson, Head of International Business and Investment Promotion at the Swedish Energy Agency.

During COP28, the Swedish Energy Agency will launch several new and extensive partnerships to accelerate the green transition and international climate cooperation under the Paris Agreement.
