Caroline Asserup appointed new Director General of the Swedish Energy Agency
The government has appointed Caroline Asserup as the new Director General of the Swedish Energy Agency. She will assume the position on 15 August, succeeding Robert Andrén, whose term ended on 31 August 2024.

With over 20 years of experience at the Swedish Energy Agency, Caroline Asserup possesses extensive knowledge of both the agency and energy-related issues. She also has prior experience of the role, having served as Acting Director General since 1 September last year.
“The mission of the Swedish Energy Agency plays a central role in building a long-term, robust and sustainable energy supply. We have a strategic responsibility in creating conditions for Sweden’s strengthened competitiveness and security of supply. I look forward to leading the agency’s important work,” says Caroline Asserup.
Most recently, Caroline Asserup held the position of Head of the Climate Department, where she was responsible for energy planning, the management and development of policy instruments for renewable energy, as well as international climate cooperation and export promotion.
She has previously held managing roles with responsibility for both energy systems and energy use and analysis. She has also held roles at the Ministry of Enterprise and Innovation, focusing on electricity market regulation and the energy system, as well as at the Ministry of Finance, where she worked on energy and environmental taxation.
The Swedish Energy Agency welcomes Caroline Asserup to her new role as Director General. Her appointment runs until August 2031, according to the government’s decision.
