Climate
Our work on climate aims to accelerate Sweden’s transition to fossil-free energy and net-zero emissions.
By 2045 at the latest, Sweden should have no net emissions of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, and thereafter achieve negative emissions. The Swedish Energy Agency is working on several important initiatives to help reach that goal. We also collaborate with other countries at the EU level and internationally to reduce global greenhouse gas emissions.
International climate cooperation
We are responsible for Sweden’s program for international climate initiatives, which aim to reduce global greenhouse gas emissions.
EU Emissions Trading System
The EU Emissions Trading System, EU ETS (European Union Emissions Trading System), is one of the EU’s main instruments for reducing greenhouse gas emissions within the Union.
Carbon capture and storage
Carbon capture and storage (CCS) is one of many tools to reach our climate goals. The Swedish Energy Agency has been commissioned by the government to promote and deploy CCS in Sweden.
