The Swedish Energy Agency strengthens Sweden's international cooperation in nuclear power

The Swedish Energy Agency joins a Swedish-British nuclear delegation to enhance international cooperation and opportunities for Swedish industry, especially around small modular reactors (SMRs).

On 14–15 October, the Swedish Energy Agency will participate in a Swedish - British nuclear power delegation that brings together companies, authorities and industry organisations from Sweden and the United Kingdom. The purpose of the delegation is to establish contacts, exchange knowledge and identify opportunities for cooperation in nuclear power, particularly in relation to small modular reactors (SMRs).

Delegation programme to foster nuclear partnerships

The programme is designed to bring together Swedish and British stakeholders seeking suppliers and partners. The focus is on building long-term relationships between the countries and promoting technological development and industrial investment. For the Swedish Energy Agency, participation is part of its work to strengthen the international position of Swedish industry and increase knowledge about current technological solutions.

"We see great value in Swedish stakeholders gaining access to international experience while contributing with their own expertise. It is an important part of our official mission to create conditions for new nuclear power and to increase the capacity of the future´s energy system", says Niclas Carlsson, Head of International Market Development and Investment, at the Swedish Energy Agency.

Sweden has identified several countries for cooperation in the field of nuclear power. These include the United Kingdom, France, the United States, Japan, South Korea and Canada – countries where several of the most relevant technology suppliers are located. The delegation is a step towards strengthening cooperation with these actors.

The role of the Swedish Energy Agency in supporting new nuclear power in Sweden

The Swedish Energy Agency has been commissioned to contribute to a secure, cost-effective and fossil-free energy supply. In the field of nuclear power, this means that the agency shall support the development of new technology, promote international knowledge exchange and create conditions for industrial development and skills provision.

The agency also enables international cooperation where Swedish companies can establish early partnerships with leading key players in reactor design and manufacturing.

By acting as a facilitator for industrial development and skills provision in nuclear power, the Swedish Energy Agency contributes to strengthening Sweden's position in the global energy transition.
