Our mandate
A society without energy is a society that stands still. The Swedish Energy Agency works to ensure that society has the energy it needs as well as to shape the fossil-free energy system of the future.
We take a holistic view of the energy system. From production to use, from technology to markets, from local solutions to global interdependencies. We explore where the challenges lie, and where opportunities exist.
With that knowledge, we design policy instruments, propose measures, and direct efforts to where they have the greatest impact. We connect research and analysis with practice, and innovations with markets, in order to ensure the greatest possible societal benefit as well as improved competitiveness.
We ensure that knowledge and evidence guide the development of the energy system. We assess the current situation along with the future outlook, risks, and potential. This forms the basis for decisions that balance different perspectives and creates the conditions for a sustainable energy future for all.
Together with other actors, we work to ensure that Sweden’s energy system is fossil-free, and that we have a secure and competitive energy supply. Not only today, but also in the long term.
