Cooperation with other countries
Through the Swedish Energy Agency, Sweden has signed bilateral agreements with several countries for cooperation under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement.
For the Swedish Energy Agency to provide funding for emission reduction projects in another country, a bilateral framework agreement must first be established between Sweden and that country. Once this agreement is in place, the agency can sign contracts with project developers. In many cases, a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is signed before the formal framework agreement. Below is a list of our current partner countries.
Dominican Republic
Sweden has signed a bilateral agreement with the Dominican Republic on cooperation under Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement.

Switzerland
Sweden has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Switzerland that allows for the transfer of a symbolic amount of ITMOs from carbon removals, from a company in Switzerland to two companies in Sweden under Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement.
Zambia
Sweden has signed a bilateral agreement with Zambia on cooperation under Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement.
