Launching the Swedish Battery Arena – A hub guided by value chain actors

The Swedish Energy Agency is launching the Battery Arena to bring together stakeholders across the value chain on core issues, that could enhance Sweden and the Nordics as a leading region within the global battery industry.

In light of a fast-growing battery industry, Sweden is ideally positioned to take a leading role and create sustainable and competitive batteries. However, some key constraints remain that keep the industry from reaching its full potential. These constraints can only be overcome jointly, hence there is a need for a collaboration platform for all stakeholders based on concrete and tangible activities.

The Swedish Energy Agency is launching the Battery Arena, not only to help with the coordination of actors, but also to get involved in hands-on problem-solving on critical action areas which include, but are not limited to:

  1. Policy and regulations
  2. Talent and competence
  3. Research and innovation
  4. Finance
  5. Sustainability

To comprehensively address the entirety of the battery value chain, we extend an invitation to all stakeholders to participate in the Battery Arena. This inclusive gathering encompasses a diverse spectrum of participants, including representatives from industry, academia, policymakers, and beyond. The goal is to incorporate a multitude of perspectives to effectively overcome bottlenecks within the system.

Operationally, the Battery Arena will be organised and funded by the Swedish Energy Agency initially, with a committed period of five years. An advisory board will be established to provide guidance for purposeful actions.
