Projektsammanfattning:
Westra Materials and Uppsala University are developing high-performing conductive binders that boost Li-ion battery (LiB) performance by enabling higher capacity and longer lifetime. A conductive binder is a polymer that provides cohesion and conductivity, eliminating the need for separate conductive additives and mechanical binders. Based on benzodifurandione (BDFD) derivatives, our 2-in-1 materials combine strong adhesion with high conductivity and water-based processability, allowing more active material in the electrode. We will adapt this cathode-proven technology to Si-rich anodes, which can store 10x more Li than graphite but often crack, lose contact, and degrade. By integrating adhesion and conductivity in one material, we target 1200 mAh/g at up to 30 wt% Si and ?80% retention after 200 cycles. The project will deliver the first high-performance conductive binder for Si anodes, strengthen Sweden’s position in battery materials, and accelerate sustainable electrification.
