The project develops a new packaging material made from seaweed – a fast-growing, renewable resource that does not require farmland, freshwater, or fertilizers. The goal is to create a material that can replace parts of today’s plastic packaging while reducing energy use and climate impact. During the project, the material will progress from an early development stage to a lab-verified prototype, where technical properties and energy relevance are evaluated. In parallel, the project analyses market needs and opportunities for future commercialization. The work also includes an IP strategy and dissemination of results to build a solid foundation for further development. By the end of the project (TRL3-->TRL4), there will be a verified prototype, a clear business and scale-up plan, and strengthened knowledge of how seaweed can contribute to more sustainable and resource-efficient packaging solutions.
